Abstract
This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of using Taylor Swift’s songs with figurative language to improve junior high school students' vocabulary mastery. Learning English as a foreign language is challenging, and vocabulary is essential for students to master English effectively. Due to the challenge, song is an ideal medium that potentially improves students’ vocabulary mastery in ELT. The participants of this study were 58 students of the 8th grade of a private junior high school in Palembang. The samples were selected through purposive sampling technique and divided into two groups, experimental and control groups. The researcher used test and questionnaire to collect the data. The results of the test were analyzed by using a t-test meanwhile the results of the questionnaire were examined through descriptive analysis. The findings show that Taylor Swift’s songs with figurative language significantly promote the students’ vocabulary mastery improvement.
