Abstract

Background : Acute respiratory tract infection (ISPA) is an infection that attacks both the upper and lower respiratory tract organs. The cause of ISPA is bacteria or viruses. Risk factors for ARI include behavior, individual and environment. ISPA complications that can occur include respiratory failure caused by lung function stopping, an increase in carbon dioxide content in the blood, heart failure, collection of pus (abscess) in the lungs, damage to the lung air sacs, and inflammation of the lungs. Efforts that can be made to prevent the occurrence of ISPA are washing your hands, avoiding touching your face, especially your eyes, nose and mouth, with your hands to avoid the spread of viruses and bacteria. Objective : Understand the description of self-care in preventing infection acute respiratory tract in residents living in the working area of the Palembang Social Health Center Methods : This research uses a descriptive survey method with a cross sectional approach. The sample consisted of 96 respondents, the sample used purposive sampling technique. Data collection uses a questionnaire sheet. Technique data analysis using univariate analysis Result : The results of this study showed that the majority of respondents had poor self-care (62.5%), and adequate self-care (37%). Suggestion : There is a need for education and counseling about self-care to prevent the occurrence of ISPA in the work area of the social health center. Key Words : ISPA, Prevention and Self care
