Abstract

Background : In the examination of Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST) Levels in the blood, one of the examination materials used is serum. To obtain serum can be done in two ways, namely centrifugation and without centrifugation (precipitated). Serum without centrifugation can be used as another effort when a laboratory has constraints on facilities and infrastructure so that the Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST) examination can still be carried out. Objective : Knowing the difference in Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST) Levels using centrifuged and uncentrifuged serum. Method : This type of research is Pre-experiment with Static-Group Comparison research design. The research was conducted at the Balai Besar Laboratorium Kesehatan Masyarakat (BBLKM) Palembang. The research subjects used amounted to 38 students. Sampling was done using the total sampling method. Data analysis used Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with 95% confidence Level. Result : The average aspartate aminotrasferase (AST) Level in centrifuged serum was 26.76 U/L, the average aspartate aminotrasferase (AST) Level in uncentrifuged serum was 27.14 U/L. Conclusions : AST Levels in centrifuged serum were not significantly different from AST Levels in uncentrifuged serum p = 0.292 (p>0.05). Suggestion : For future research, it is recommended to examine other analytes.
