Abstract
Background : Uric acid examination is one of the examinations that is often carried out in clinical laboratories, to detect uric acid levels in the body. The main uric acid examination material used is a serum sample. The tubes that will be used for uric acid examination are plain vacutainer tubes and serum separator vacutainer tubes. Objective : To determine the difference in uric acid levels, use a vacutainer plain tubes and vacutainer serum separator tubes using a chemistry analyzer. Methods : This research is a quantitative research with an analytical observational research design with a cross sectional approach. The subjects in this study were 35 students who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. veins were collected in plain blood vacutainer tubes and ± 2 mL serum separator vacutainer tubes which would then be centrifuged to obtain serum which was examined using a Kenza 450 TX instrument. Statistical tests use the Paired t Test with a confidence level of 95%. Results : The average uric acid level using a plain vacutainer tube was 5.33 mg/dL. The average uric acid level using a serum separator vacutainer tube was 5.19 mg/dL. By using the paired t test, p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), which means there is a difference in uric acid levels using a vacutainer plain tube and a vacutainer serum separator tube with a chemistry analyzer. Conclusion : There was a significant difference in uric acid levels using plain vacutainer tubes and serum separator vacutainer tubes. Suggestion : For further research using plain vacutainer tubes and SST vacutainer tubes, it is recommended to use a larger number of samples with a variety of research subjects that can influence the results, such as patients with a history of gout, to determine the effect of the gel separator on uric acid levels, using different methods. Plain vacutainer tubes are recommended as blood collection tubes for checking uric acid with a chemistry analyzer.
