Abstract

Background: Uric acid is the result of the breakdown of certain food waste containing purine nucleotides produced by the body. The main specimen for uric acid examination is serum. Serum is obtained from blood collected in vacutainer tubes without anticoagulants that are centrifuged. Assessment of various tube manufacturers is important to ensure the accuracy of the test results, especially if choosing a cheaper tube can increase the profit margin. The vacutainer tubes used were Siny and Becton Dickinson (BD) non-addictive vacutainer tubes. Objective: Determine uric acid levels using Siny and Becton Dickinson (BD) non-addictive vacutainer tubes Methods: This study is a quantitative study with an analytic observational research design with a cross sectional approach. Subjects in this study amounted to 43 students who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Blood samples were collected in Siny and BD non-addictive vacutainer tubes as much as ± 3 mL which were then centrifuged to obtain serum which was examined using the Kenza 450 TX tool. Statistical tests used the Wilcoxon test with a 95% confidence level. Results: The average uric acid level using Siny non-addictive vacutainer tube is 5.30 mg/dL, while the average uric acid level using BD non-addictive vacutainer tube is 5.39 mg/dL. By using the Wilcoxon signed rank test obtained p = 0.052 (p> 0.05). Conclusion: There is no significant difference in uric acid levels using Siny and BD non-addictive vacutainer tubes. Suggestion : For uric acid testing, you should fast for 10-12 hours before taking blood for examination.
