Abstract

Background : In the platelet count examination, one of the components that can affect the examination rate is the blood collection tube. To lower the examination rate, use cheaper blood collection tubes. Before being used for examination, Siny tubes are compared with BD Vacutainer tubes, to determine the quality of the tubes. Objective : To determine the number of platelets in the BD Vacutainer K₃EDTA tube and the Siny Vacutainer K₃EDTA tube using a Hematology Analyzer. Method : This study is quantitative research with an analytical observational research design and a cross-sectional approach using total sampling. The subjects in this study are 37 Medical Laboratory Technology Level II and IV students who have met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results : The average number of platelets in the BD Vacutainer K₃EDTA tube was 309.72 10³/μL. The average platelet count in the Siny Vacutainer K₃EDTA tube was 311.32 10³/μL. By using a statistical test using the paired sample t-test, p = 0.599 (p > 0.05). Conclusion : There was no significant difference in the number of platelets in the BD Vacutainer K₃EDTA tube and the Siny Vacutainer K₃EDTA tube. Suggestion : Laboratories can use Siny tubes as blood collection tubes, so the price of the examination is cheaper.
