Abstract

Background: Glucose is the main source of energy for the body. Glucose tests measure blood sugar levels. In this examination, the type of sample used is serum. Serum samples are obtained from blood in centrifuged non additive vacutainer tubes. Evaluation of various tube manufacturers is necessary to ensure reliability of results, especially if choosing cheaper tubes can increase profit margins. Tubes used were Siny and BD non additive vacutainer. Objective: To determine the blood glucose level of specimens collected in Siny and BD non additive vacutainer tubes. Methods: This study included quantitative research with the type of observational analytic research approach cross-sectional study. The research subjects were students who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria totaling 43 subjects. Blood samples were collected into Siny and BD non additive vacutainer tubes as much as 3 mL then centrifuged to obtain serum and examined with Kenza 450 TX equipment. Statistical hypothesis testing using Wilcoxon test with 95% confidence level. Results: The average value of glucose levels during specimens collected on Siny tubes was 85.75 mg/dL and the average glucose levels during specimens collected on BD tubes was 86.66 mg/dL. With Wilcoxon signed rank test obtained p-value = 0.484 (p> 0.05) Conclusion: There is no difference in glucose levels during specimens accommodated in Siny and BD non additive vacutainer tubes.
