Abstract
Background : The sample used to examine ALT levels is serum obtained from the centrifugation process. Tubes that can be used include plain vacutainer tubes and SST tubes which contain clot activator and polymer gel. The polymer gel content in the SST tube can affect the instability of certain analytes such as electrolytes. This study aims to determine the difference in ALT levels using plain vacutainer tubes and serum separator vacutainer tubes. Methods : This study is an analytical observation, namely a cross sectional approach using total sampling technique. The research subjects were 35 DIV TLM students who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results of the examination of ALT levels using plain vacutainer tubes and serum separator vacutainer tubes were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. Results : The average ALT level using a plain vacutainer tube was 19.0 U/L. The average ALT level using a serum separator vacutainer tube was 18.9 U/L with a statistical test result of p-value = 0.141 (>0.05). Conclusion : There is no difference in the examination results of ALT levels using plain vacutainer tubes and serum separator vacutainer tubes. Suggestion : Conduct research using a larger number of samples with a variety of subjects that can affect the results. Further research can detail the effect of separator gel composition on analytes in serum for other clinical chemistry examinations.
