Abstract

Background: Surgical safety is one of the guidelines in providing safe and comfortable surgical services so as to achieve patient safety. Surgical safety checklist is a professional team communication medium between surgical nurses, surgeons, anesthesiologist to discuss important stages in surgical cases through 3 phases: sign in (pre-induction), time out (before incision), sign out (before the patient leaves the operating room). These three phases must be applied to every surgical procedure. Researchers saw the phenomenon that the surgical team had not all implemented the surgical safety checklist according to procedures, but researchers saw that the documentation was complete. Objective: To find out a comparison of the implementation of surgical safety with documentation of surgical safety in one of the hospitals in Jambi. Method: This type of quantitative research uses an observational study design using measuring instruments in the form of observation sheets and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The population of this study was 130 operations and documentation of operations and a sample of 54 operations taken using a purposive sampling technique. Results: Bivariate test results showed a significant difference between implementation and documentation of surgical safety (p < 0.001). Suggestion: Re-socialize the operating room team about surgical safety and carry out monitoring and evaluation to improve the implementation of surgical safety in the Operating Room Installation.
