Abstract

This research aims to analyze errors in the use of capital letters in narrative essay texts written by fifth grade students at Palembang Baptist Elementary School. The method used is descriptive which is used to produce a picture of an event or phenomenon. This research is qualitative research with a descriptive qualitative approach. The research sample was 40 students from classes VA, VB, VC and VD, 10 students were sampled from each class using random sampling techniques. The results of the research show that there are several types of errors in the use of capital letters that often occur, including: use of capital letters at the beginning of a sentence, errors as the first letter of a person's name, place and capital letters in the middle of a sentence, errors in writing punctuation, such as omitting signs. read at the end of the sentence. . Things that influence errors in using capital letters include students' lack of understanding about when they should use capital letters, lack of emphasis on correct writing rules, and the influence of the use of capital letters in everyday.
