Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by increased blood sugar levels. Diabetes mellitus requires ongoing treatment so that blood sugar remains stable. Compliance with taking medication is needed to stabilize blood sugar levels in DM patients. and family support has an important role in supporting DM patients, especially in ensuring that patients remain compliant with the treatment program. Objective: To determine the relationship between family support and compliance with taking oral hyperglycemia medication with current blood sugar levels in diabetes mellitus sufferers. Methods: Used cross sectional approach to 41 respondents in total sampling using a questionnaire and a glucometer. Result: The results showed that the majority of respondents had quite good family support (60.9%), moderate medication compliance (78.0%) and normal blood sugar (73.1%). Data analysis shows that there is a significant moderate negative relationship between family support and current blood sugar levels in diabetes mellitus sufferers (r= -0.446; p=0.002), there is a significant moderate negative relationship between adherence to taking medication and current blood sugar levels in sufferers. diabetes mellitus (r= -0.443; p=0.004), there is a significant moderate positive relationship between family support and adherence to taking medication in diabetes mellitus sufferers (r=0.380; p=0.011). Suggestion: Support provided by the family can increase compliance with taking oral hyperglycemia medication so that sugar can be stable in diabetes mellitus sufferers.
