Abstract

Background: One way to reduce the death rate is to save the baby and mother in labor by means of a Sectio Caesarea (SC) operation. Sectio caesarea can cause side effects in the form of pain due to the incision wound. One non-pharmacological pain management to overcome pain caused by tissue damage due to surgery is guided imagery therapy. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of guided imagery relaxation techniques on pain in post-caesarean section surgery patients at Siti Fatimah Regional Hospital. Method: This research uses a quasi-experimental method with Two Group Posttest Only Design. The population in this study were all women giving birth after caesarean section surgery at Siti Fatimah Regional Hospital, Palembang with a sample size of 40 respondents using a purposive sampling method. Research analysts used comparative bivariate analysis using the Wilcoxon test and Mann-Whitney Test. Results: The results showed that the average age of respondents in the intervention group was 27.10 years in the control group was 27.35 years, and the frequency of SC was dominated by the first SC in the intervention group 13 people (65%) the control group 15 people (75%) and the difference in the average pain scale for the intervention group was 13.40 for the control group 27.60 (p = 0.000 < 0.005). Data analysis shows that there is an effect of guided imagery relaxation techniques on pain in post-caesarean section surgery patients at Siti Fatimah Hospital, South Sumatra in 2023 (p.value = 0.000). Suggestion: The hospital Siti Fatimah it is can improve services to the community, especially post-caesarean section surgery patients, in dealing with post-caesarean section surgery pain apart from using pharmacological treatment, namely by carrying out guided imagery relaxation therapy.
