Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is also known as the silent killer because this disease can attack several organs of the body, causing various complications. Currently there are 537 million people (10.5%) in the age range of 20-79 years in the world living with diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus cannot be cured, so its management really needs to be considered, especially towards the fulfillment of physical activity carried out by individuals, this is because physical activity will make the body's metabolism work more optimally so that it can increase blood glucose levels, prevent obesity, lipid disorders blood and prevent blood hypercoagulability. Therefore researchers want to prove the theory of PMR therapy can reduce blood glucose levels in DM sufferers. This study used a case study design with 4 respondents being treated for 5 days with a duration of 30 minutes and blood glucose levels were measured before and after the intervention. Based on the results obtained from all research respondents who experienced a decrease in fasting blood glucose levels every day with different differences, this proves that non-pharmacological therapy Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) is effective and can be carried out to reduce fasting blood glucose levels in people with diabetes mellitus. It is hoped that all DM sufferers can apply PMR as a physical activity exercise and be followed by implementing the other 4 pillars such as checking blood glucose, dietary patterns, taking medication and knowledge about disease management.
