Abstract

Background : Peak expiratory flow describes the condition of the airways and the maximum amount of airflow achieved during expiration with maximum forced effort from the total lung capacity. Several factors can affect the decrease in the yield of the peak expiratory current value, one of which is exposure to dust in the work environment. Purpose : The aim of this study was to analyze the application of balloon blowing therapy nursing care to increase peak expiratory flow in smokers. Method : The research method used is qualitative using a case study approach, where this research is directed to describe and illustrate how the application of nursing care includes assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. The sample of this study were 2 male respondents who were smokers. Results : The scale results were obtained before balloon blowing was applied, namely Res 1 (300) in the moderate category, Res 2 (200) in the mild category. After balloon blowing therapy was carried out for 3 days, the results of Res (500) were in the normal category, Res 2 (550). From these results it was seen that there was a difference in values before and after balloon blowing therapy. Suggestion : There is a need for health education regarding the benefits of balloon blowing therapy to increase peak expiratory flow in smokers.
