Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a chronic disease that can be controlled with good self-efficacy. Someone with low self-efficacy tends to have difficulty achieving optimal self-care. Self-efficacy is needed by hypertension sufferers to improve self-management in controlling blood pressure and preventing complications of hypertension. Purpose: Knowing the relationship between self-efficacy and blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Methods: This research method uses an analytic survey design with a cross sectional approach. A sample of 60 respondents was taken by purposive sampling technique. Measuring tools used are questionnaires, observation sheets, and calibrated tensimeters. Data were analyzed using the Kendall Tau -b test Results: Most of the respondents were female 42 (70%) respondents, late elderly 17 (28.3%) respondents, educational level mostly high school 21 (35.0%) respondents, working 30 (50%) respondents and 30 respondents (50%) did not work, most of them had suffered for ≤ 5 years (35 (58.3%) respondents. Most respondents had good efficacy, 31 (51.7%) and the majority had grade 2 hypertension, 26 (43.3%) respondents. The results of the Kendall Tau -b statistical test showed a p value of 0.067 > 0.05, which means there is no significant relationship between self-efficacy and blood pressure in hypertensive sufferers. The value of τ = 0.225 which means the strength of the relationship is weak with a positive direction. Based on the analysis of the answers to the questions, only 30 (50.0%) respondents were confident that they were able to do sports even though it was difficult to manage their time because they were busy. Suggestion : The community is expected to increase self-confidence in terms of managing time so that they can exercise regularly. Keywords: Blood Pressure, Hypertension, Self Efficacy.
