Abstract

The existence of smartphones in now's era can make individuals become apathetic creatures. This condition makes peoples more accustomed to interacting online via smartphone and is more concerned with their own world then having to interact with around. This certainly creates a sense of dependence on smartphone that makes person feel excessively afraid and anxious when they are far away or unable to connect to their smartphone, this conditions called nomophobia. Nomophobia is newest symptom that be concern to experts because it can cause serious social interaction disturbances among people. The purpose of this research was to find out the relationship between nomophobia with face-to-face social interaction in students. The method in this research used quantitative method. Data collection used the NMP-Q likert scale and face-to-face social interaction scale. Respondents in this research amounted to 223 students. The results of the hypothesis test using the product moment with correlation value 0.051 (p <0.05) and correlation strength value -0.226 thats mean there’s indicates a significant negative relationship between nomophobia and face-to-face social interaction. The conclution is that the higher nomophobia then the lower social interaction in students. Keywords : Nomophobia, Face-to-face Social Interactions, Students
