Abstract

Background: Aging is a natural process that cannot be avoided, which includes both physical and psychological decline. This setback can affect the independence of physical activity. The independence of the elderly's physical activity is the ability of the elderly to meet their daily activity needs without or with minimal assistance. This independence will affect the risk of falling caused by a decrease in balance due to decreased function of bones, muscles, elasticity or joint stiffness and physical endurance. The risk of falling that is not immediately prevented can lead to falls that cause minor injuries to disabilities. Objective: Knowing the analysis of the relationship between physical activity independence and the risk of falling in the elderly at the Harapan Kita Social Institution for the Elderly. method: Using the observational method with a cross sectional design. The population is all the elderly at the Harapan Kita Social Home for the Elderly, totaling 80. The Kendall's Tau-B test results found that there was a relationship between physical activity independence and the risk of falling p value= 0,005 (p ≤0,05).
