Abstract
Background: Hemoglobin test is a test to determine the level of hemoglobin in the blood specified in units of g / dL. In venous blood sampling, the process of installing a tourniquet on the elongated damming can affect the results of hemoglobin examination. According to CLSI (2017) tourniquet installation should not exceed 1 minute, but lengthening of tourniquet installation time can occur because veins are too small, vein conditions that are less elastic, edematous conditions, in elderly patients, and in patients who have arthritis, Parkinson's, and stroke. In phlebotomy, a tourniquet is used for venous blood collection with the aim that the blood vessels appear dilated and protruding so that the location of the stabbing can be easily determined. Objective: to determine the presence or absence of differences in hemoglobin levels in venous blood samples with tourniquet damming 50 seconds and 80 seconds. Method: this type of study is an Observational study "Cross Sectional" approachResults: The average hemoglobin level test results stemmed with a 50-second and 80-second tourniquet were 13.02 and 13.08 g/dL, respectively. The results of the paired sample T test statistical test showed that the p-Value value was 0.011 with a significant level of ≤ 0.05. Conclusion: There is a significant difference in the results of hemoglobin tests stemmed by a 50-second and 80-second tourniquet. Advice: In checking hemoglobin levels, torniquet damming must be done not to exceed the predetermined limit because if done more than 60 seconds there will be a false increase in hemoglobin levels
