Abstract
Background : Hypertension is a condition where blood pressure is more than 140/90 mmHg. Hypertension can cause several complications, one of which is stroke. High blood pressure can cause the blood vessels to rupture or narrow in the brain. Stroke complications can be influenced by the efforts of hypertensive patients in carrying out barrier. Stroke prevention can be influenced by knowledge, attitudes and barrier that occur in people with hypertension in making efforts to prevent stroke complications. Purpose : To know the relationship between the level of knowledge, attitudes and barrier with stroke prevention in hypertensive patients in the Bukit Lama district, Palembang. Methods : Using an analytic survey design with a cross sectional approach to 79 respondents with a purposive sampling technique. Measuring tools used are questionnaires and calibrated sphygmomanometer. Data were analyzed using Kendall-tau. Result : The majority of respondents were elderly, female, secondary education level, hypertension degree I respondents, long suffering from hypertension with duration short (1-5 years), good knowledge, sufficient attitude, moderate barrier, and less effort. Data analysis showed that there was a relationship between knowledge and stroke prevention (p=0.001), there was a relationship between attitudes and stroke prevention (p=0.001) and there was no relationship between barrier and stroke prevention (p=0.062). Suggestion : Health workers can improve the quality of education and services to increase the knowledge, attitudes, behavior of people with hypertension and the problems they experience are reduced and as an additional reference to the nursing science study program in learning about stroke prevention in hypertensive pattients related to knowledge, attitudes and barrier.
