Abstract

Based on the application of fable texts as character learning materials for students, the research aims to describe character learning through the fable textbook entitled “Lost by the Smart” by Atisah (author), published by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Language Development and Development Agency.This investigation has implemented qualitative research with descriptive methods. Elaborating on document analysis and researcher triangulation, the study carried out data collection. Fact-finding in this study is focused on the characters in each story. The research findings concluded that the analysis of character values in the book “Lost by the Smart” has been compatible with the 18 character values asserted by the Ministry of National Education. It includes being religious, caring, creative, hard-working, and responsible. In addition, the character values in the fable textbook “Lost by the Smart” can be used as learning material in Grade IV with Basic Competency 2.1, 3.9 and 4.3. There are six stories in the book, including Lost by the Smart, The Origin of the Sound of the Turtledove, The Origin of the Characteristics of Weasel, Ki Mandahong, Cat and Mouse, and A Mouse Deer Who Always Remembers God. However, Ki Mandahong's story cannot be used because the character values contained in the story are not in accordance with the 18 character values stated by the Ministry of National Education. This character learning can be a recommendation for the learning process at Palembang Baptis Elementary School. Keywords: Character values, fable, RPP
