Abstract

Background: The provision of professional nursing care to patients cannot be separated from the implementation of therapeutic communication by nurses as care givers. Communication between nurses and therapeutic patients becomes an obligation. Communication here is defined as interpersonal communication, which allows nurses to create and maintain good therapeutic relationships so as to facilitate the achievement of optimal healing. Purpose: This study aims to determine the performance of nurses in the implementation of therapeutic communication by nurses towards inpatients at Siti Fatimah Hospital, South Sumatra Province. Method: The method used is to use the lecture and question and answer method. The briefing material provided is an understanding of the therapeutic communication SOP. To measure the level of achievement of participants' understanding using pre-test and post-test assessments. The briefing participants were nurses on duty in the inpatient room with a total of 78 participants, which were divided into 2 activity sessions. Result: The results of the pres test average score is 47.11 and the post test average score is 74.53, with an average increase value of 27.43, so it can be concluded that one of the efforts to improve the implementation of nurse therapeutic communication is by directing and supervising continuously Suggestion: Hospital management, especially nursing managers, must pay special attention to the implementation of therapeutic communication by nurses, including holding therapeutic communication classes for all nurses on duty in the service.
