Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus can cause chronic complications. Chronic complications of Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) can result in foot ulcers. The incidence of foot ulcers in DM patients is 1-4% dan the risk of amputation is 10-30 times. Abnormal ABI values lead to the occurrence of PAD. One way to improve the ABI value is by doing diabetic foot exercises. Purpose: Knowing the results of the application of diabetic foot exercise to the value of the ankle brachial index (ABI) in people with diabetes mellitus in the working area of the Sukarami Health Center. Methods: The research design used was qualitative using a case study approach with 4 respondents as subjects. Data collection was carried out using questionnaires dan observation sheets. The analysis technique used is descriptive analysis by looking at the ABI value before dan after implementation. Results: Each in the age range of 20-40 dan 41-60 years 2 (50%) respondents. The majority are female, 3 (75%) of respondents. Last education respectively 2 (50%) respondents. The majority of suffer from DM in the range of 1-5 years 3 (75%) respondents. Consumption of each drug 2 (50%) respondents. Control of health services each 2 (50%) respondents. After implementing diabetic foot exercises for 5 days there was a significant change in the ABI value, where all respondents had normal ABI values, where previously there were respondents with abnormal ABI values. Suggestion: Nurses need to provide health education regarding the benefits of diabetic foot exercise to people with diabetes mellitus.
