Abstract

Background: Hypertension when blood pressure is more than 140/90 mmHg. Hypertension requires lifelong treatment to keep blood pressure stable. One of the non-pharmacological approaches used to reduce blood pressure is a relaxation technique, namely Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR). PMR therapy aims to bring about a relaxation response that can stimulate sympathetic and parasympathetic nerve activity resulting in a decrease in blood pressure Objective: Using a case study with a descriptive method with a nursing process approach that is carried out for hypertension sufferers using SOP PMR and calibrated sphygmomanometer. PMR is carried out for 15 minutes for each exercise, one time a day at the same time and is carried out for 3 days. Methods : The results of the PMR application showed that before the PMR was carried out, the average systolic pressure was 144 mmHg and the diastolic pressure was 82 mmHg with the category I hypertension. diastolic 79 mmHg with prehypertension category. Suggestion: Hypertension patient can apply PMR complementary therapy regularly to help in lowering blood pressure Keywords: blood pressure, hypertension, progressive Muscle Relaxation
