Abstract
Background: Knowledge is the result of knowing a science and has been done to determine an object. Mothers are a figure who plays an important role and are role model in children’s development. At this stage, mothers also have to know every stage of child development, especially in the golden age of children. Mothers with good knowledge, education, age, and job, their children’s development will match the children's age. Objective: This research aims to observe the mothers’ knowledge regarding the development of preschool children. Method: This research is descriptive research with Cross Sectional approach. Result: The sample in this study was 38 mothers with preschool children. It consisted of 18 mothers in RT 35 RW 11 and 22 mothers in RT 39 RW 12 in Bukit Lama, Palembang. The questionnaire used was adopted from Denver Developmental Screening Test II (DDST II) regarding the level of knowledge of preschool children’s development. The research results found that 28 mothers (73.7%) had good knowledge, 8 mothers (21.2%) had sufficient knowledge, and 2 mothers had a low level of knowledge (5.3%). Conclusions & Suggestion: The majority with a middle and good level of education, age, and job, mothers become more aware of the needs in child development and understand more that child development is very crucial at the age of 3-5 years. Hence, it is necessary to maintain and improve the knowledge of their own.
